Changing Places, Changing Lives
About the project
This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Working with Conwy and Denbighshire Councils, Mencap Cymru are identifying locations for up to two Changing Place toilets within each county.
Following a consultation exercise with people with a learning disability, their family/carers, organisations, support staff and other professionals we have identified locations in Conwy and Denbighshire which will be announced soon.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
Corwen Pavillion, Denbighshire
Following an extensive consultation period Corwen Sports Pavillion was identified as the site of the modular changing places facility. Corwen Town Council owns Corwen Pavillion.
Chester Composites Ltd was appointed as the contractor for this work in July 2024.
Check back for further updates on progress.
We are still confirming the location of our Changing Places facility within the county and will have an update soon.
What is a Changing Places facility?
The Changing Places Consortium says "Standard accessible toilets (or "disabled toilets") do not provide changing benches or hoists and most are too small to accommodate more than one person. Without Changing Places toilets, the person with disabilities is put at risk, and families are forced to risk their own health and safety by changing their loved one on a toilet floor."
In order to be called a Changing Places toilet, use the logo and be registered on the site, a Changing Places facility must meet the minimum requirements set out on their website.
